Harakeke Weaving

Harakeke Weaving

----------------------------------------------------------

Hey everyone, it's Rae.

Today we had Whaea Michelle come in and do some Flax weaving with us!  Very few New Zealanders would fail to recognise Flax,it is one of our most distinctive native plants. It is used for weaving.  Back in the day The Maori people used it to make ropes, nets and sometimes even wepons!  We weaved them to look like flowers.💮                                   This is My peice of Harakeke I weaved.

Fun Fact:  Did you know Harakeke is the
Maori name for Flax?
This is my peice of Harakeke I weaved.
